WHEN THERE'S A WILL ,THERE'S HARDLY A WAY

Sounds rather depressing and loser-istic,doesn't it? Well it will ,if you never had the misfortune to be in the need of a leave for a few days;unlike one of my friends.

The poor guy wanted a leave for a week so that he could attend his sister's marriage. But the exact process of obtaining a leave is so complicated and convoluted that the sincerest and the most patient maggu might not be able to follow it to its end.Personally i would prefer to bunk my own marriage rather than get the job done-so infinitely fussy and hackneyed it is.

At the very onset, you will have to write, about, half a dozen applications (the number being directly proportional to the number of courses you have taken). All these have to be addressed to the Dean Of Academic Affairs(more commonly known as DOAA).All these applications, then, have to be forwarded to your Faculty Advisor after the concerned professors have given their authorised signatures.Hereafter you go to your Head Of Department(HOD) and get it signed by him.Only then are you allowed to go to the Dean(and get it signed from him too!).After this juncture, you return with the manifold signatures to your professor and voila!! your application is through, assuming ,of course, that the profs, deans, heads, etcetera are unusually forthcoming, which, ussually, they are not.

On the contrary you might have to make 3-4 trips to the office of your head, prof, dean etcetera for a single signature.Yes!! guys and girls ,thats the naked truth. There can be a multitude of factors that can cause this heinous disruption. The most general being the one in which the prof, dean, head etcetera might simply not be at the office(According to modern research, indians have an unique and hitherto unencountered chromosome in their genes that perpetually extorts them to forage for ingenious ways by which they can get paid without doing any or little work). These and including other factors the number of total trips can,on an average, rise to astounding values(typical examples being 25,30 or more).

Of course, the obvious course of action is not to fuss about applications and leaves and to just go wherever you want to and not care about what the insti does. But this is not about what we do or can do.This is about what the insti expects us to do.

Theres a very expressive and rather vulgarly pictorial phrase in hindi, tailormade to be used in this and similar circumstances-which ,out of humanistic shame,i would rather not mention.
